From August 1-4, VWC leaders Denise Walton and Keith Brunner were in Johnstown, Pennsylvania for the Nonviolent Medicaid Army 2024 Organizing Exchange in Appalachia, hosted by Put People First! PA.
Denise and Keith joined 50 leaders with the NVMA from nine states in learning and practicing our method of organizing, getting grounded in the people’s history of Johnstown and Appalachia, and door-knocking in four communities across the region.
The stories they heard on the doors were the same we hear in Vermont: Folks with unpayable levels of medical debt, people who live in pain because they can’t afford dental procedures, folks who develop complex conditions because they avoided going to the doctor for fear of cost… the list goes on.
We demand Medicaid for All — Healthcare is a Human Right!
